Well another year is nearly done, just a few extra events before the end of 2015 (see below) and we looking forward to Christmas. As usual, delicious Free Range Bronze Turkeys and Geese will be available, as well as our usual products
On the Farm
This years lambs have come in to the barn now to feed on silage in the dry. The rams went out this week (3 November) which will see us lambing at the end of March again. Our ewes are a mix of mostly Romneys (with a hint of Border Leicester, Jacob and Zwartble from years ago) and a new input of Suffolk . This has given us bigger lambs while retaining the interesting mix of black, brown, grey and white sheep so nice for sheepskins (see below) and fleeces. If there are any spinners who are looking for unwashed coloured or white fleeces, contact us and we can let you know what fleeces are in my Stash. The fleeces from the lambs I find give really nice wool for spinning but I can't spin it all!
For a cosy bedside rug how about an 'Oakcroft Bearskin' (extra large sheepskin)? Available in varying shades of black and brown and occasionally white or grey from £65.00 - £ 90 each. If you would like to see one please contact us and we can bring a sample to the market.
We currently produce the following sausages and usually bring a dozen or more varieties to each venue depending on the meat or poultry that we have available. At the moment we usually have most of the following on the stall;
Plain Pork, Honey Roast, Cumberland, Westcountry, Oak-smoke, Pork with Cracked Black Pepper & Onion, Pork & Leek with Ginger, Italian Herby, Duck & Cranberry, Duck or Goose with Redcurrant, Turkey & Cranberry, Pheasant & Cranberry, Lamb & Mint or Lamb and Rosemary.
New this autumn, Plain Beef Sausages, Lamb Merguez ( a spicy all lamb sausage) and Boerewurs.
We also now make Traditional Hogs Puddings. These are a local delicacy made from pork with groats (a hulled oat) and are poached slowly in water then vac-packed . they are best sliced and lightly grilled or fried.
NB We are always looking for new ideas for recipes !
On the Pie front we have extended our range so look out for Pheasant and Smoked Ham, Duck Apple and Onion, Pork, Herby, and Countryman's Pies in a variety of sizes. We also have Duck Pasties as well as Beef Pasties shortly and of course the ever popular sausage rolls and Chicken and Ham pies.
(some of our home-made pies and pasties which we sell at Markets and Shows)
